MUSIC
We are passionate about music at Stanbury Village School. Children will experience a range of different musical opportunities throughout their time at Stanbury - using the teaching methods of Kodaly and Dalcroze to enliven our music curriculum to teach skills in listening to and responding to music, making connections between genres, artists and instruments, participation and composition, and an understanding of the basics behind musical notation and orchestration.
Children will be taught how to listen deeply, consider the purpose and history behind music, the emotions and feelings of composers and artists that create music, and how to use this in their own pieces of music. Children will acquire a progressive level of skills in playing a recorder, and be given opportunity to learn how to play a wide range of instruments from peripatetic teachers' and wider curriculum experiences.
Children will be given the opportunity to develop their voice, participate in local and national events, for the choir, band and smaller ensembles, combining music with drama and art for effect.
Whenever possible we host live music at school from brass and woodwind ensembles to visiting Bretton bands to inspire a love of music throughout the school.
THE CHOIR and school band
The school choir and band – known as S – Club runs from autumn to the end of spring. Children have not only the opportunity to sing but to play a musical instrument in a meaningful and inspirational context.
The choir regularly takes part in internal and external performances with local schools.
IN SCHOOL MUSIC TUITION
To provide the children with a wide range of musical opportunities the school offers a range of lessons with external specialists. These are at an additional cost, which is paid directly to the tutor. these lessons take place during lunch times and throughout and after the school day.
We currently provide music lessons for Guitar and Piano. We can also provide violin, flute and clarinet lessons.
