French
Languages play an important port in the modern world and provide openings to other
cultures and opportunities around the world. Here at Stanbury, we aim to further
our children’s curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world through the
teaching of French.
Children are given many opportunities to learn through speaking, listening, reading and
writing. The main part is practical communication, expressing ideas, facts and
feelings coupled with committing useful material to memory for subsequent recall.
We use role play to effectively develop creative and imaginative situations as well as
singing songs and learning conversations. Languages are used in everyday life for
example when taking the class register or having French days, to help promote and
develop children’s language skills across school.
Learning a language enriches the curriculum, enhancing teaching and learning
experiences, but also helps create enthusiastic learners in all subjects. Children gain a
knowledge and understanding that helps develop their own literacy and oracy skills which improves their language development.
